There is a big
difference between Mac and Windows when it comes to the keyboard. As you may know,
on the keyboard of the system Mac OS, there is no such thing called Print
Screen key like on that of Windows. Therefore, if you want to capture a screen
shot on Mac, you will have to use a key combination. In this article, we will
show you the way to screen capture Mac.
How to screen capture Mac?
The question
needs to be clear here is how to screen
capture Mac? Or how to take a
partial screen shot right on this Mac OS system? Here is the answer.
1. If you want to
capture the whole desktop, then press Command ⌘ + Shift + 3. The screen capture
Mac will be
automatically saved as a PNG file on the desktop. The file name will look like “Screen shot
2013-06-01 at 09.00.00 PM.png” or something like that. In case you want to copy
the entire desktop, press Command ⌘ + Control + Shift + 3. Then the screen shot will be placed on the
clipboard for you to paste into another program.
2. The next one is to take a partial screen shot. If
you want to capture just a portion of the desktop, then press Command ⌘ + Shift + 4. After that, a cross-hair cursor will appear and
you can click and drag to select the area you wish to capture. After you
release the mouse, the print screen Mac will be automatically saved as a PNG file on the
desktop. A little notice that the file is
saved as PDF in Mac OS 10.3 and earlier.
3. Another thing that can interest you
is how to capture a specific application window? In order to do so, you have to
press Command ⌘ + Shift + 4, then press
Spacebar. You will
see that the cursor will change to a camera, and you can move it around the
screen. When you move the cursor over an application window, you will notice
that the window will be highlighted. The entire window does not need to be
visible for you to capture it. When you have the cursor over the window that
you want to capture, what you need to do is click the mouse and the screen capture
Mac will be
automatically saved as a PNG file on the desktop. A little notice that the file is saved as PDF in Mac OS 10.3 and earlier.
If you want to have your screen
shots in other file formats than PNG, you can save these screen shots in JPEG,
TIFF, PDF, and some other file formats.
